In a world that is in desperate need of peace, could it be that we are looking in all the wrong places? What if peace could be scientifically studied - measured and "proven" - would its meaning then be less of a mystery, therefore providing the means for crafting a more peaceful reality? These are the questions that series creator Olivia Barham seeks to answer in this lively and engaging series hosted by PBS veteran and accomplished actor/director, LeVar Burton.
Science of Peace will contain interviews with public figures such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who's name is synonymous with peace. The series will also explore proven scientific developments in human physiology that relate to peace such as the cutting-edge work of the HeartMath Intitute, and the fascinating heart-brain research of author and researcher Joseph Chilton Pearce.
In the HeartMath segment, LeVar will travel to Boulder Creek, California, to talk to Director of Research Rollin McCraty who will demonstrate his Freeze-Framer Interactive Learning System developed to bring the heart into a state of peace or 'coherence' using a computer and a heart rhythm monitor. By watching a graph on the computer screen in real-time, the user can see the effects of their thoughts on their emotional state.
In his segment, Joseph Chilton Pearce will discuss with LeVar the recent scientific discovery of the 'heart brain' -- a fifth aspect of the brain that lives in the heart. Mr. Pearce will demonstrate the HeartTuner -- an instrument that measures heart coherence by teaching a person to link their EKG to a musical key. This 'heart-music' provides a measurable and recordable energy that is undeniably
connected to our thoughts and emotions. Is the activation of this new brain what is necessary in order to finally create peace?
Science of Peace seeks to engage the viewer with new ideas, infusing hope for the future while educating in the practical, measurable application of peace in our daily lives, in our communities, and in our world.
