Journey is a feature-length documentary film examining the nature of consciousness, the historic use of psychotropic plants in tribal cultures, and the role of psychedelic explorations in modern society.
The film will chronicle the history of hallucinogenic plant use over many thousands of years, then examine the 25+ year history of psychedelic research in recent western society, commencing with an examination of our current attitudes towards mind-altering substances as a culture. From the discovery of LSD-25 in Switzerland to the American-led world-wide prohibition of all psychedelic compounds in 1967, extensive scientific studies were performed which produced startling results in the areas of cognitive and artistic ability, psychotherapy and spiritual development. Psychedelic use has shaped our modern culture in surprising ways. Journey will reveal how psychedelic experience has influenced the work of a number of leaders in a wide variety of fields that have impacted contemporary society. Also, after a many-year hiatus, research is again poised to resume, utilizing a variety of new technologies and research protocols.
The film will not be a "pro-drug" opus. Journey instead will endeavor to present historical data and scientific findings along with anecdotal evidence to generate a thoughtful, open-minded examination of this controversial subject. We will assert no moral conclusions and no endorsement for use will be made. Journey will suggest, however, that psychedelics deserve further credible and legal scientific study.
